Bad news from Billy Hunter, head of the NBPA union

Picture

Billy Hunters is not very optimistic when it comes too the likely hood of a 2011-2012 season, or even half a season. When asked about the possiblty of a 2011-2012 season Billy Hunter had this to say "If I had to bet on it at this moment, I would probably say no". This is the most straight forward answer from either side upon til this point, and sadly this answer confirms our biggest fears, odds are we will lose the 2011-2012 season. According to the NBA owners 22 out of 30 teams lost money last year despite the league putting up record numbers in T.V rating during the playoffs and the regular season. With the NBPA and the owners so divided chances are the owners will be willing to lose the next season if it means revenue sharing, a hard cap, smaller contracts, and everything else the owners are demanding. Hopefully both sides can come together to get a deal done before late October when the NBA season begins.

Why are players going over seas?

Picture

Different players have different motives for playing overseas, the second-tier players want to go in case they lose a full season which would cause them to lose a year of pay which given there lesser salaries they cannot afford to lose. For the superstars, playing overseas is a way to grow their image and show the NBA owners they have leverage and options in case the lockout manages to go into the regular season.  For both stars and bench players going overseas is approved of by the players union, in fact a memo sent out by the players union had this to say when addressing if they support players going overseas during a lockout "(we support all players) who are taking steps to continue to earn a living, stay in peak competitive shape, and play the game that we love while the unfortunate league-imposed lockout is in place." So why are players going over seas?  Different players have different reason but even though fans like us tend to forget basketball is a job like anything else, so if players want to play basketball during a lockout going overseas might be there only option.

Differences and Similarities between NFL lockout and NBA lockout

When NBA fans as my self look at the current state of the basketball universe its hard not to compare it to the former state of the NFL which was in a long lockout that threatened to go into NFL preseason games and beyond. Luckily for NFL fans the lockout ended with time to spare, a free agency frenzy followed, and all was forgiven. Sadly, things do not look as optimistic for NBA fan, so to fellow NBA fans understand why that is I've done extensive research and present to you the difference between the NFL lockout and the NBA lockout.
